Below are the times for the sidewalk collection of garbage for tenants, occupiers and business owners in the City of Hamilton.
| Day | To be put out by |
|---|---|
| Monday – Saturday | 6:00 a.m. (All) 5:00 p.m. (Business only) |
| Sunday | 7:00 a.m. (Bars and restaurants only. No residential, retail or business garbage will be collected.) |
Note:
For all bulky refuse collection (e.g. computer hardware, TVs, furniture, washing machines, fridges, etc,) please call the Sanitation Supervisor on 295 6446. The Corporation will only collect amounts up to 1 truck load. For larger loads, customers must make their own arrangements.
Grease containers are collected only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and must be put out for collection by no later than 06.00am. Grease must be stored in sturdy, leak-proof containers and should be placed so as not to cause any impediment to pedestrians or traffic.
Items such as empty bread and milk containers must be stored inside your premises at all times, The Corporation of Hamilton is not responsible for disposing of those items and therefore they cannot be placed on Corporation property – streets, sidewalks or connecting lanes and alleys. This applies to any other items belonging to your business all of which must be stored within your own premises until collected and removed.
All garbage, but in particular wet trash and grease containers, must be appropriately bagged and secured and carried to the sidewalk without being dragged. The dragging of plastic bags causes them to tear, which leaves unsightly grease residue on the pavers that creates a safety hazard for pedestrians.
