The following policy relating to the importation of oversize receptacles is strictly adhered to:

1. This application to import a 40’ container unit is be submitted to the Port Operations Office in advance of the container being loaded on board ship in the U.S. Requests will not be considered if the carrying vessel is already on route to Bermuda. Unapproved 40’ container units will have to remain on board the ship.
2. The cargo must be an indivisible load that cannot be accommodated in a 20’ unit. Information supporting this claim must accompany this application.
3. The 40’ Container unit has be removed from the Port of Hamilton the day of vessel’s arrival.
4. The consignment should be pre-cleared with H.M. Customs so that it can be delivered immediately upon discharge from the carrying vessel.
5. The 40’ Container unit cannot be stripped on the docks.
