Application for permit to operate crane, high lift, fork lift or other lifting machine within the City of Hamilton

Terms and Conditions

  1. The machine must not lift over members of the public or vehicles. Provision must be made, to the satisfaction of the City Engineer or his representative, for the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicles and shown on the above- mentioned plan.
  2. Barriers must be placed between the public and any moving machinery including counterweights. Suitable temporary barriers may be rented from the Corporation subject to availability.
  3. For the purposes of this permit any area where lifting machines are being operated is considered a building site and all Health and Safety rules and regulations apply.
  4. Traffic control must be provided when vehicular traffic is reduced to one lane.
  5. Any lifting machine that is operated or parked within the city boundary must have a permit.
  6. Parked machines must:
    1. be within a marked parking bay. The machine must fit within the parking bay.
    2. never be left on double yellow lines without express written consent from the Corporation of Hamilton.
  7. Machines not carrying public liability insurance are not permitted to operate on the streets of Hamilton.
  8. Machines must be licensed by Transport Control where required.
  9. The permit must at all times be displayed on the machine in a visible location.
  10. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in the lifting machine being ordered off the City streets.
